Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Why isn’t Gen Silent on a streaming service like Netflix or Amazon, or for rent on DVD from RedBox, etc.
Think of Gen Silent as an educational film or even a corporate video. This is our business model. Check with your local library. They may already have it!
Q: What is the cost to show Gen Silent publicly or by an organization?
The fee per screening is $399 for an audience of up 150 people. If your expected audience is larger*, we create a custom quote from your contact form. The fee is based on your expected attendance and how the film will be used (training, fundraising, etc). What may seem like a large sum, is actually far below the average cost of a movie ticket when it’s divided by the number of people who will see it.
Q: Can I also book cast and crew to speak about the issues in the film?
Yes. This often creates a very meaningful discussion afterwards. For more information about the director: http://stumaddux.com/ . Simply state your interest on the group rental form and our coordinating producer will provide pricing information with your quote.
Q: Why can’t I just by the Library DVD and show it publicly?
Our Library Edition of Gen Silent (like most DVDs at a library) is not intended for public exhibition. That is because we must pay royalties and other fees each time the film is shown to a group or publicly. With the reach of online marketing, even as an event on Facebook or Instagram, it is difficult for a public or group screening to occur without our knowledge.
Q: Who is using Gen Silent?
Gen Silent’s most recent screenings include Fortune 500 companies, more than forty film festivals, the nation’s leading centers of learning as well as its largest conferences on aging and advocacy. We are even prouder of the number of community centers, places of worship and student groups using Gen Silent.
Q: Can I have two smaller screenings for the price of one larger screening?
Unfortunately not. We must charge each time the film is played. Many of our costs (like rights and licenses) are incurred each time the play button is pressed.
Q: How long is Gen Silent?
The full-length film is 63 minutes. The educational version is 25 minutes. We strongly suggest planning time for discussion afterwards.
Q: When do I get my copy of the film?
Approximately 14 days prior to your scheduled screening a folder will arrive by priority mail with the DVD and other helpful information, including a stamped-self-addressed envelope for dropping the DVD in the mail after your screening. Think Netflix.
